The Kia Syros (2025) is a shrunken EV9 for India

Curtain up for the Kia Syros. An EV9 shrunk to the bare essentials for India, which, according to the manufacturer, should set new standards in design, technology and space there. What can the Indian market look forward to? Let's go into detail ...

The external appearance of the Syros embodies Kia's "Opposites United" philosophy. Clear lines and modern accents such as the striking Starmap LED lights characterize the futuristic design. Elements such as the Digital Tiger Face front end, 17-inch Crystal Cut alloy wheels and lamps projecting onto the asphalt in the Kia-branded doors are among the highlights.

According to the data sheet, the new India Kia is just under four meters long, 1.80 meters wide and 1.67 meters high. The wheelbase is 2.55 meters. It is based on a reinforced version of the group's K1 platform. This makes it significantly larger than its direct competitor – the Hyundai Casper (with combustion engines for other markets) and the Hyundai Inster (with electric drive for Europe).

With the longer wheelbase compared to the Hyundai twins, the vehicle is said to offer generous space. According to Kia, the sliding, tilt-adjustable and 60:40 split rear seats are innovative in the class, allowing for a flexible trunk. Modern features such as a 30-inch panoramic display, a two-part panoramic roof, ambient lighting in 64 colours and ventilated front seats also aim to create a luxurious atmosphere.

The Syros is also pretty well equipped for an emerging market model. And it does so with over 80 connected functions, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates for 22 control units and a Harman Kardon premium audio system. A wireless smartphone charger and real-time navigation via a call center are also available. The Kia's safety systems are also extensive. ADAS Level 2 systems such as lane departure warning, 360-degree camera and automatic emergency braking are on board, and the reinforced K1 substructure provides additional stability and protection.

The Syros is available with two engines, which are also more powerful than the options on the Casper: a 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with 120 hp and a 1.5-liter diesel engine with 116 hp. Both engines can be combined with manual and automatic transmissions, and the front wheels are driven exclusively

Kia has not yet commented on the prices and the planned market launch. And it is also not yet clear whether the model could possibly come to Europe under a different name and with a different drive. But an EV1 might be a logical possibility.
